Ask a ProDomme | What Are the Most Common Fetishes?

International Fetish Day takes place every third Friday in January, but this year we're celebrating fetishes all month! To kick us off, writer Zoë Tersche asked a former New York-based ProDomme what the most common fetishes and kinky acts her clients requested were. Read on.

A friend approached me a while back with what she delivered as important news. Her boyfriend wanted to try something new in bed (or rather, in the shower) - being peed on. His request threw her off guard. Is this normal? According to a former Manhattan ProDomme I interviewed, it is. In fact, golden showers, or being the recipient of a stream of piss on your body/face, was one of the most common fetishes asked for as an addition to a session at this particular midtown dungeon.

1. Golden showers  - not as easy as you might think

The ProDomme (who we'll call Alison*), recounts that sessions on any average day contained water sports making it number one among the most common fetishes. “Pee was a big one... peeing and spitting.” Located smack in the middle of New York City's business district, this upscale dungeon's clientele comes from mainly a white-collar background. For many of Alison's clients, aggressive, often degrading sessions with her served as a reprise from their high-stress work environment. Almost all the clients held positions of power and welcomed the opportunity to retreat a submissive role for $200 an hour. “We used to get a lot of corporate, business tycoons, stockbrokers, very intense individuals. And then they would come in and want you to spit in their face and just let go for a little bit.”

Peeing on someone's face isn't as easy as it sounds. Alison had to practice at home in her bathtub before successfully executing golden showers in a paid session. During an initial practice session with an experienced ProDomme, Alison had first attempted golden showers and failed. She was surprised by how difficult it is to relax muscles trained only to release over a toilet. “I was thinking of noises in my head, like waterfalls,” but nothing worked. Finally, after a lot of practice and a half-gallon of water, Alison learned to pee whenever, wherever she wants. “I can pee like a guy. I can just stand there and go for it.” Which her boyfriend admittedly finds weird.

2. Being trampled on and dildo worship

Coming in a close second and third as the most common fetishes among Alison's clients are trampling and dildo worship. Much like the desire to be peed on, having someone trample over your body is also a dehumanising experience, which helped many of Alison's clients get into the proper headspace for following commands versus taking charge. And if you're going to have someone walk all over you, they might as well be clad in a black corset complete with garter belt and thigh-highs, as was Alison's custom uniform.

Dildo worship was one of the common fetishes that usually came towards the middle or end of Alison's sessions. It requires the client's commitment to the role of submissive, which typically takes some pre-play like piss, spitting, or being trampled to get into character, so to speak. Dildo worship is exactly as it sounds, and involves either a hand-held or strap-on dildo. These clients, predominantly male, were to Alison's knowledge allegedly straight, many even married to women. “For the most part, everybody took off their wedding rings.” Then they bowed down, licked, and anally took an explicitly phallic object of desire.

3. Crossdressing - one of the most common fetishes to add to a session

Additions like these to sessions typically cost $40 apiece, and it was Alison's job to sell them. Making clients realise that their fantasies were not unique was integral to Alison's success in selling popular session extras, such as another crowd favourite, crossdressing. “It was normal. We provided everything. We'd have size 11 and 12 women's shoes, a lot of lingerie, wigs. In our locker, we had little boxes with lipstick, labelled like, 'Ron's lipstick.'”

Back-tracking to my friend's question about her boyfriend's interest in being peed on, yes, it is normal and is one of the most common fetishes. In one of the world's largest cities, golden showers are sought after by some of the population's most elite members.
