ho**** Posted Thursday at 05:48 AM Posted Thursday at 05:48 AM I read the cencorship topic - and this is directly related - but slightly more specific to the limits section on my profile. I typed in "I am not comfortable with extreme ***, ***, or ***." and what appears on my page is "I am not comfortable with extreme , , or ***." Now - i do understand that you probably have some content filtering requirements, i don't know any of the legal shit, especially at the international level. I know you are trying to walk a very fine line between allowing people the freedom to express themselves, while still keeping everyone safe, and that has to be a massive *** in the ass. i've done web site development before, nothing even remotely on this scale, but i can vaguely comprehend the difficulties you must be facing as you grow, which seems to be happening rather dramatically. My only thought here - is that a limits section - is by definition going to almost certainly be explicit. Mine is pretty tame by comparison to many that i have read. I am actually trying to say that i am probably too nice to be interesting to most folks in here - and my text is being hidden and deleted so my statement is without any meaning. I know this is not as simple as pushing a button. You have to decide what terms are acceptable in what locations. I think the content filtering feature is kinda new - so you probably implemented it a little broadly, and now need to fine tune it to be more meaningful and helpful to the community. I just wanted to put this on your radar as an area that will probably need some attention when you have time. Thank you for all of the hard work that you do to provide this service to us.
CaraVirt Posted Thursday at 08:13 PM Posted Thursday at 08:13 PM Firstly, many thanks you for your objective and empathetic explanation of your problems with/concerns about the current situation regarding the censorship of certain terms. I/we understand this very well and are also not satisfied with the current configuration. To explain: As I described in the censorship topic, actions had to be taken due to new requirements/regulations (on an international level). This had to be done quickly and comprehensively, as otherwise serious consequences could be expected (e.g. our app being kicked out of the stores or problems with partner contracts). This ‘blacklist test run’ was therefore implemented first. This ensured that the new requirements/regulations were met. Your estimation is absolutely right: 14 hours ago, hockinghills said: I think the content filtering feature is kinda new - so you probably implemented it a little broadly, and now need to fine tune it to be more meaningful and helpful to the community. Of course, we are not at all satisfied with the fact that this censorship is having such an extensive impact and that you - our members - are very restricted in many areas as a result. For example, that information in profiles is also affected or that many posts are ‘destroyed’ to such an extent that they become almost unreadable. We are therefore working on improvements at various levels. Technically, we are working on alternative solutions to the blacklist. In regard to content, we are trying to find compromises in dialogue with the relevant authorities and institutions. Unfortunately, this process is still ongoing and I have to be honest and say that it will take at least a few more weeks. So at the moment I can therefore only ask for your patience and understanding. with best reagards Carmen, Community Team
