but most group chats are between friends and/or people known and vetted for.

Some of the old Telegram/discord/etc chatrooms fall dead because it's mostly horny dudes

OK, yep - so

The best way to get talking to people and making friends is by attending munches (or events)

If you're in the Midlands there's not a shortage of choices - it's worth a visit to the BBB also.    The advantages of course is anyone who you speak to you know is real, attends stuff, etc.

"Group Chat" is a very vague term and a lot of the smaller ones are usually circles of friends. Some of the larger or kink specific ones can be too active to keep up with (esp if you don't really know anyone) and is likely to have folk over a larger area

cannot post links on here - but - google 'find a munch' this will give you a website which is a directory you can use to filter down by area.  Most (but not all!) of the links then direct to Fetlife - so it's the most comprehensive directory.
