Things have changed

In the past their may have been more of an elitism within the community which I no longer think is as prevalent, certainly not on Fetish.

I think this is where something HAS changed a lot.  I think things like social media has brought more kinks together.  I think there is still an elitism attitude in places, but it often gets drown out.

I remember... when I first went to clubs 2001/2002 whenever it was - there were folk who would slag it off saying "it's not real BDSM it's just overweight middle age folk spanking each other" - but that was merely attempting to gatekeep.  It was a club full of people having fun, while other sat at home moaning it's "not real"

I have noticed more bratty young sub girls?  Is that a millennial thing?

and bratty young Domme's also ;)

I think it's a mixed bag.  I mean, the idea isn't new - I mean, Veruca Salt from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - 1964 that was written : Veruca would certainly be a bratty Domme ;)

I feel there's a lot of socio-economic influences, that we have been in hard times since the global crash of 2008 - and assorted things like poverty, austerity, etc. can turn a lot to sex work - add in a couple of newspaper articles or TV shows about how someone got rich selling socks (usually not mentioning they're also an escort...) or being mean on the internet (disregarding that this is just a persona ;) ) and, yeah, certainly less stigma even if it's the same thing.

But, I also think some of the bratty sub comes a lot from reclamation - that some brat to be punished and this can be their kink or also reclamation of previous ***.  But, that gets complex.  It's also not that new, the sub in the Secretary did a little bratting also.

I honestly wouldn't have had any idea how to begin without the internet. I'm far to shy to try and meet people in person, or at least I was :) the chat rooms here and the lovely people in them gave me the confidence to start going to local munches and begin to build my real life circle of kinky friends.

hopefully that will be a common comment in coming months, online at present cuts down on pressure, I certainly recognise the confidence building aspect of being online here so hopefully when its over Kymi can come out of her shell more

@SolomanStrange some fashions have changed, first time I was put into a maids uniform my French Knickers were quite full and reminiscent of skimpy satin lace trimmed boxer shorts, now they seem to be a version of a thong, oh and carrying a red handbag, especially while wearing a mini skirt and fishnets, doesn't seem to have the same meaning it had when I was last living full time as a woman in London

carrying a red handbag used to be a way of advertising you were on the game without falling foul of soliciting rules

It was a form of red light. In some pubs (where i grew up) if you wanted a quick shag, you put *** (the folding type) under your glass like a beer mat. It signalled a drink in return for a quick one out back. whilst out there the barman would take the *** and when you got back the other person got a drink from it and the barman kept the change.

it certainly was, wonder whether the custom you mention is still in use, certainly would be an interesting kink, too small to be called prostitution more like slut nights/greedy girl sessions with free drinks for the tart, mmm nice to think about that idea

not just that - all the directory magazines went the distance also.   It's cheaper and easier to maintain a website or profile

its probably a good thing, its far safer than the old way, I was doing this in London when Colin Ireland was operating, I shudder to think I could easily have been one of his victims, so as much as I miss that life I have to admit that's a change for the better

It's not something I've had to deal with - I've always been in the age of online.  But.  I had the pleasure of meeting a couple of Ladies who'd been around long enough to have seen both.  I feel some of their views may be distorted a little (as any do when you look backwards) but

these days, it's really easy to find a Domme who works professionally.  Often with that her email address. Her phone number. And this easy to access information in an era where we expect things on tap can cause to a lot of really lazy contact and a lot of timewasters

But, in the Domme directory days.  You couldn't accidentally or easily stumble on a Mistress website or profile.  You literally had to go into a shop, usually a sex shop.  You had to buy the magazine (or subscribe to it) you then had to manually go through the listings to find someone who seemed like they interested you.  Then you called them.  So, no copy paste to 100 people and hope for the best.

Anyway. So, you then made the phone call and discussed the potential booking.  Fair enough.

You knew nothing else about her. She wasn't on Twitter. No website. No profiles online. That's just it.  If you enjoyed your time and enjoyed her company and wanted to find out more about her. Wanted to get to know her. So on, you had to work for it.

All you otherwise had was this phone number available at limited times and she really called the shots on who got any time whatsoever above the session time. You couldn't bug her on Twitter or send an email or slide into DMs.

Of course, there were other risks associated with this.  I mean, you'd turn up to a session hoping this person matched the description and was real.  But, well, they'd taken the time to put out a paid ad.
