Famous Parent Sayings

Whether it be parents, grandparents, caregivers or teachers I am sure we all heard those little nuggets of wisdom ... and occasional weirdness.

So which do you find your selves still using to this day.

For me it is:

"If you cannot say anything nice, do not say anything at all."

Must admit that one really can mess up *** Play though. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Great thread @Thebian

A few off the top of my head:

“Don't you make me pull this car over” 🚗

“You kids will Be the death of me"

“I wasn't born yesterday you know”

“Because I said so”  (My response but why?) 😋

“I am counting to three”  ( My response can you make it 5) 😁

“I’ll wash your mouth out with soap” (Sadly that one I remember all too well) 🧼

and my favourite "You brought this on yourself" (always was a glutton for punishment) 😋🤣🧚‍♀️

I just thought of one that you could easily apply to our lifestyle.

"You will have someone's eye out with that." :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Hehe this is another fantastic post @Thebian some of mine I got off my nan and my mum were......

*** doesn't grow on trees you know..

If so and so jumped off a cliff would you follow them?"

Don't make that face, if the wind changes you'll stay like that.

If you had a brain you'd be dangerous

When you pay the bills you can do what ever you want.

Because I said so, that's why!

Stop crying or I'll give you something to cry about.

I want, never gets

Don't sit that close to the TV, you"ll get square eyes

Who is she? The cats mother

All of these of course got a sarcastic comment back and then a clip round the ear 🤣

Fab post!

Some little gens I remember:

'Cry you'll *** less'

'It's like Blackpool illuminations in here'

And one from my gran that haunts me to this day....if we fell over and hurt ourselves...'it'll be a pig's foot in the morning'. I have no idea what that even means haha

Remembered another one, which my Nan used to always recite when my *** and I were up to no good....

"There was a little girl,

Who had a little curl,

Right in the middle of her forehead.

When she was good,

She was very good indeed,

But when she was bad she was horrid."

My Nan:   Girls don't be horrid !!!

For some reason I'm beginning to see a theme here with my childhood.......  🤣🤣🧚‍♀️

Another one was..... What did your last slave die of, go fetch it yourself 😂 and that room won't tidy itself!!!!! Also you wait till your dad gets home 😂 now that one use to shut me up good and proper 😂😂

Not sure they came from my parents but 2 that spring to mind are
“It’ll all come out in the wash” meaning it will all resolve itself in whatever way it’s going to
“Poppycock” which means a load of old bull etc
Just two that sprang into my head

Always wear clean underwear, why a hospital would be bothered if you'd been hit by a bus I always wondered what difference it would make

Never heard that one, but it has that strange logic to it.

I used to get when pouting ..

"If you do that a little bird will come down and peck it off." generally indicating the expertly deployed bottom lip.

@lil-monster I used to get the "What did your last slave die of ?" as well, as I got older the answer was "Boredom." :joy:   then the clip round the ear.:flushed:
