Koby Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 Stages of Exploration (Nonlinear) With a change model, it can be fluid - you can go from reflect to pre contemplation stage if a significant life changing event occurs. You can also sit between stages You can also skip stages Internal and External influences can impact you on different stages Most importantly, you don't have to "conform" to the definitions I have suggested Pre-contemplation is the stage at which you decide you have an interest in kink and BDSM but lack the insight or experience . Many individuals in this stage are unaware or under-aware of their identity within BDSM. Contemplation - Ideas and interests are firmed up but not ready to engage. Decided that BDSM is the place for them but still lack the experience or BDSM knowledge. Mentally, have the desire to engage but physically may disengage due to *** or anxiety or internal conflict or safety ***s or simply non-readiness. The Preparation stage can be considered the information gathering and planning stage. The preparation stage is the most important?. Garnering information from various stages e.g. Forums, ***rs, books, videos, mentors, munches, perhaps observations at play sessions, may partake in telephone or online play. Cultivating identity and exploring interest Action - acquired some knowledge/insight. and is tentatively ready to holistically to partake in BDSM. Ready to seek a partner and has now reached a minimal level of confidence to articulate needs. Still developing. Feels liberated but still there are elements of trepidation . Maintenance - early trepidation has dissipated, holistically comfortable with who they are. In a relationship or seeking. Reasonable cemented, awareness of self. Better awareness of safety/red flags. Gaining experience and knowledge. Reflect - back and forth between Maintenance and Reflection. Internal and external influencers e.g. New experiences influence identity, age? New knowledge? Change of social circumstances? Discuss, if you so wish?
