Looking for ideas/advice/tips for stockades

So, I've always found stockades to be incredibly sexually arousing, but I've never actually gotten a chance to use one myself. I finally broke down and bought a nice one online, and it should be here around Monday. It is a solid, stand up stockade with a bench to lay on and benches for the legs as well. My question is, being that I have never used one, is there anything I should be aware of going in? Any tips to get the most out of it, or anything I should try out that my girlfriend and I will enjoy? 

A little background on us, we are both switch, so we understand both sides of the dynamic, and we discuss everything before we do it to ensure consent, so no idea is really too out there or off the table, and if it does end up being something neither party wants to try, or even one of us, it won't happen.

Check to see how it fits you both and always check to make sure that’s it’s sanded down and won’t leave splinters. Make sure there’s adequate padding on the neck. There’s nothing worse than a poorly finished stockade.

As a Domme, I prefer to use stockades for impact play and it’s always a fun position for pegging. There are so many ways to use it. Role play is always a fun way to make use of great equipment.

Adding to @Jesabug comment if the interior of the neck or hand holes are too rough you can easily find Italian Leather online and line it your self. This will give you a soft and smooth interior next to the skin.
