There are just as many types of kink as there are ways to play. We all have our preferences. Not everyone who loves a bare-handed spanking will enjoy impact play with a specific spanking implement such as the cat o nine tails. If you’re ready to take your spanking to a different level, or just try some different types of kink, here are my top spanking toys.
Find a spanking implement that feels right for you.
Ask almost anyone who likes having lots of kinky gear, and they’ll tell you how they’ve “perverted” everyday items. Meaning, things used for a reason other than their original purpose - perverted. A trip to the hardware store usually fills them with lots of ideas for things they can DIY. Pervertibles are cheaper, easier ways to find new toys and opening up to new types of kink.
My kinky partner once broke a hairbrush over my butt in the middle of a scene. Other people have a favourite wooden or plastic brush, usually with a wide head. Any will do as a spanking implement, as long as one side is flat enough to make contact. Another trick with hairbrushes is to run the bristles over a pink, tender ass in between strokes.
Wooden or plastic can be used here, too. Some kinksters prefer wooden rulers because they have more heft than plastic ones. Depending on the intensity of the strike, any type of ruler can leave a bright pink stripe across a butt or thigh. They’re also great in student/teacher role play.
We can’t keep wooden spoons in the kitchen - they always end up in the bedroom. A spoon creates a sharp thwack on the skin. They usually aren’t heavy, so it tends to sting. They can also be used to soothe tender flesh between smacks.
I’m lumping fly swatters and spatulas together even though they’re two different things. The reason is that they’re both plastic or metal and flat. They can create a delicious (or awful, depending on your perspective) sting. Both are super easy to find.
Yet another spanking implement we broke over my butt. Unfortunately, this one couldn’t be repaired. (RIP dear paddle) Ping pong paddles have a smooth side and a textured one, which can change how it feels on the skin. They’re lightweight and cover a broad surface. The sting can be minimised because of this. However, if you catch it on an edge, you get a burning sensation.
One wooden dowel, depending on its circumference, might feel like a cane on your partner’s body. If you’re crafty, you can take a few dowels and bind them together. For the latter option, choose thinner dowels than you might for a single cane-like experience. They’re whippier, more flexible, and make a great sound when they whoosh through the air.
A kink specialised shop is a good place for a new spanking implement.
If impact play is for you, it won’t be long before you start eyeing gear explicitly made to hit people with. You get better quality when you buy from a shop that specialises in kinky sex toys, but general adult stores can also carry great toys. BTW no one will be surprised to see you slapping your forearm or thigh in the kink section.
Spanking paddles come in various materials. Custom wooden paddles; others have metal or plastic centres and are covered with leather or other material. Some paddles have a word etched in it - to leave an extra reminder. Test the handle and weight when selecting a paddle. It needs to be comfortable to hold, and you’ll need to learn how to swing it to maximise what it can do.
The cat o nine tails or a bullwhip might be the first things that come to mind when you think “whips.” There are, of course, others, but these are the most familiar. Before you discipline your partner with a good whipping, you need to learn how to wield it. Check your local community to see if demonstrations or classes are offered. Watch videos online. Practice - a lot - on inanimate objects. Then, try it out with a partner.
You can buy a crop in a toy store or at a tack shop. Some kinksters prefer the ones from tack shops because they tend to be sturdier. Crops deliver a sweet sting in a small localised spot. You can strike in the same place over and over again so your partner really feels the burn, or spread the love/pain around so they never know where it will land next.
