Westward Bound is one of the gold standards for latex clothing in any size, and if you’re interested in this style there are few better options. Delightfully, they go up to a size 26 in almost everything. My particular recommendations go to this (see above) flatteringly-cut dress for anyone who likes a 50s style or is a little nervous about wearing latex for the first time, or a skater skirt for an easy way to incorporate latex into any outfit.
If you’re after something a little more affordable, Skin Two is a price bracket down from Westward Bound and is almost as prestigious. Sadly, many of their offerings only go up to a size 16 - but they do have a few things larger than that, such as this gorgeous PVC circle skirt that would go with anything or with the right undergarments, could be worn in dozens of different ways. The male clothing and accessories has a much narrower selection on this site, but it’s still worth taking a look at.
I’ve mostly focused on the kinds of things you might wear to clubs and parties so far, but if it’s bondage gear and harnesses you’re after you might find that a lot of them aren’t particularly accommodating. US based BDSM-Gear has a great reputation, and they offer a range of leather harnesses that can be made in any size. They even have an entire section called BBW. Specifically male gear is a bit sparse, but again with a little adaptation most gear can be used by everyone. They also take custom orders.
Despite being primarily a sex toy shop (and one that I’ve reviewed before, which included me being quite damning about their plus size clothing range), UberKinky now have some decent mid-price and affordable fetishwear hiding out in various corners of their website. I’m particularly tempted by the dress shown above - which goes up to a size 20, and could be dressed up in a number of ways. There are other styles with flattering mesh side panels, which would also look great!
If you can bring yourself to trawl through the lengthy item list (I wish eBay would give its shop owners a better way to sort their products!), there are plenty of gems hiding out in The Federation’s catalogue - and not only do they all go up to a size 24, they’ll also make anything you want to measure in a larger size for no extra charge. I’m a huge fan of The Federation. A one-woman operation with fantastic customer service. I used to wear the dress pictured so often I’m about to pick up another one in my current size.
When I write about stuff like this, I tend to talk about what will “look good on anybody” - but the truth is we all know that’s bullshit. What you look best in is what you feel best in. I want to try and help people figure out how to feel comfortable in the clothes they want to wear; it's not easy when they don’t feel comfortable with their bodies.
It’s important to bear in mind to stay body-positive and feeling comfortable with your body is the best thing of all. Do what you want to do to feel great, but don’t let other people’s preconceived notions of “flattering” get in the way of wearing the things you love.
*Side note from Abi: by plus size I’m not just talking those identifying as female. Of course I’m usually looking for things for myself, but I did try to make note of items for those identifying as male.
*Side note from the editor: We realise most of the pictures here are indeed NOT plus size models... images come from the websites selling the goods, take it up with them.
