The Kinkoo app is smooth looking, with a black background and bright, vibrant purple highlights which make it feel different to regular dating apps without being overly in your face.
It's pretty easy to navigate, but it's not necessarily easy to work out what each feature does. It seems very much like the app depends on you making a visual connection with someone you like, as photos are given much more focus than written profiles.
Inside the Kinkoo app.
Downloading and signing up to the Kinkoo app is free and straightforward. Pick it up in the Google Play or Apple Store and just follow the prompts.
Once downloaded, sign up is a straightforward process, but unless you're Cis, choosing a gender isn't going to be easy. However, there are a variety of sexual orientations to choose from. If they could add more gender options, Kinkoo would be quite queer-friendly.
You can pick up to five kinks from a list to put on your profile. Most of them are very BDSM specific, though, with only a few things like age play and foot fetish other than your BDSM roles. I think this probably gives an indication of who the app is mostly being aimed at.
Once you're signed in, everything is a click away. The first screen you get is one that displays user photos that you can skip or like. It does give you some brief details, age, gender, location and some of the kinks they picked. It's quite tinder-like.
There isn't really a community feel on Kinkoo. There are no forums and the focus is very much on dating, and dating of a one-on-one nature. There's no way to interact with several people at the same time.
The app is predominantly populated by people located in North America. Scrolling through members, for every profile from the UK, I saw at least 10 located in the US, with a few other nationalities scattered through the results. I didn't see anyone listed in my closest city, so maybe something to bear in mind if distance matters to you.
It also seems there are a higher number of men on the site than women, but that's something I've found to be a trend on all kinky dating sites.
You can download the Kinkoo app for free and use most features for free. However, what you can do is limited. You will have to upgrade if you want:
A one-month upgrade costs £14.99, and there are special offers if you buy three or six months upfront. It's worth highlighting that it's not possible to block anyone if you don't have an upgraded account, which means that should you have any issues with another user, your only option is to delete your account unless you pay for an upgrade. In my mind, a block feature should be standard for any online form of communication.
There are no FAQ's to be found, and there are no help pages if you get stuck. However, there is a 'contact us' option so you can message their support team with any issues you have, but I'm unsure how long that process takes.
The Kinkoo app is easy to download and use. There are many members worldwide, but the number of UK users is relatively small. You can use all the features in a limited way, but if you want to have full access, you will need to pay for an upgrade.
