It glosses and straightens her normally wild curls

The finish always reminds her of her first real female friend

That feeling of finally being included in that secret world

As her palms smooth it onto her face she takes a moment

She wishes a silent thank you to her body

She takes this moment give love to the vessel that has carried her through life

She finishes her makeup with buttery lipstick

The familiar smell of mica brings her back to those late nights

The way her mother's forehead kiss woke her at night

The way the scent lingered in the air after her mom headed to bed from her graveyard shift at the hospital

She straightens the diamond necklace over her blouse

This precious ornament that never leaves her neck

The symbol of her Dom's love and ownership

The strength of the diamonds mimic the bond between her and her Daddy

.

She slips her feet into red bottom shoes

They feel light on her feet, but they were heavy on her checking account

It reminds her of the moment she pulled herself from crippling poverty

The bright red reminds her of how she outshone her hardships

.

One last look in the mirror, she looks beautiful

Some may look at her and think her careful image is a sign of her shallowness

However, that image is the culmination of a million shards of her life

She is shallow, shallow like an ocean
