Mummification

It starts exposed and naked. Standing
in a room before a handful of witnesses
and a wall of windows that exposed me
to the world. First, the wrap. Saran, around
and around and around. Dizzying. Arms
pinned to my side, legs straight and stuck.
A statue. Then the rip. Tear. Duct tape,
silver layers that give me shoulder pads
worthy of Madonna. It's tighter this time.
Shoulders. Chest. Torso. Hips. Thighs.
Squeezing and restraining. Binding me.
Heat builds. I can wiggle my fingers and no more.
Then the trust fall. Down down down
to the ground. Rip. Tear. Duct tape my legs
all the way down to my ankle. Can't move.
Pressure. All over me. Heat. All over me.
It's intense and relaxing all at once. I stare
up at the pretty lights. Breathe. Relax. Until…
Do you want more? Can you handle more?
A gas mask, slipped over my head. The world
reduced to two small spot. My breath
loud in my ears. Darth Vadar. Now I understand.
The blindness. The ***ness. ***
on the floor. I breath in through my nose.
Not enough air. Panic builds in my chest.
I can hear voices in the room. Mumbles
in the room. Like I'm underwater.
I think about calling out to them. Help.
Get this off of me. Yellow. But then,
I remember. I open my mouth and more air
floods in. The tension in my chest eases.
I relax again. Float. A warm cocoon. A
bubble. Insulated from the world. A mummy.
