Can you have a pure master / sub contract relationship with play dates in-between?? I'm just curious about it beacuse actual relationships (dating) kinda freak me out so is it werid to think of it like a contract?

You can have whatever roles, formats and relationship that works for you and the other person/people. As with so much open and honest communication to set out what your individual needs, expectations, limits etc will help everything here.

Negotiation here is key. I totally agree with @DeviantInside it's all about communication. Pretty much anything is theoretically possible if you discuss it.

You don't necessarily need a contract, remember everything should always be consensual. Rules can make it more fun and can also ensure you have structure, if you want to put those rules into a contract then that's entirely up to those involved.
The rules can include being monogamous if you both agree to it, or can be polygamous. If you agree to your relationship being polygamous then that can also have some rules about the type of relationship you can both have with other people, vanilla or kink.
