Hello, all!

I have a serious list of questions.

1. Where do I find good bondage rope for a beginner in shibari?

2. What is the difference between untreated and wet treated jute rope?

3. What's the difference between Japanese rope tying and Western rope tying?

4. Is there a good place to find beginner self-tying videos?

Basically, I'm new to bondage and I want to find a.. ~specialist~ in rope to teach me the ropes. Lol. Puns.

By specialist, I mean someone who has been tying bondage for years and has mass amounts of experience. Please someone help me.. :( <3 I'm a poor girl in need of a BIIIG learn.

Thank you for any and all help you give me v.v <3

ok folks - I'm sure between us there's a lot of help we can give - buuuuuut - remember, no external links - so "you could look up x on youtube" or "buy this book" etc. is fine, but direct links is not.   Cheers :)

My advice regarding rope is not to buy from a sex or Kink shop and beware of so called bondage rope on amazon and ebay too. Rope services are good and their Hempex and 3 strand Nylon is nice. I prefer Hempex over Natural fibre as its more convenient for me. Check out Twisted Monk on You tube, Midori and two Knotty Boys too.

without undermining this site, you could find all the classes and more 'specialist' on fets. not far from you, Charlotte got classes for beginners kinbaku and other techniques.

Check out TwoKnottyBoys or TKB on Youtube, also you might want to look up a site called rope360.  As for books, there's a good one called the Essence of Shibari.  There's some good artists who have IG pages and links to their tutorials in their bios; I like Boris Mosafir and Seb Kinbaku as well as WykD.

If you google any of those you should find a ton of good info.

I can also help with question 1: try to find a few packs of low priced nylon rope at your local hardware store.  It's good for practicing the basics and getting a feel for the techniques.  I don't recommend it for suspensions because it's a bit slippery and tend to slip.

Good luck and happy tying!

Two knotty boys is more western than shibari, but are still really good and practical.
There's loads of videos on 'traditional' shabari on youtube - just be careful about TK/TE ties because done incorrectly can damage, especially on the bigger frames of non-asian bunnies.

Treated rope is ready to use. Untreated you'd have to treat which varies according to the type of rope fibre.

Western is often still beautiful but I find it more practical and easier to do. Shibari probably has 240000 years of tradition behind it. It's beautiful but I find it's more effort to achieve the same effect - although I am not really skilled at shibari in any form.

You can start with cotton rope from a DIY store - 4 or 6mm depending on your preference.

I've found a popular custom crafts website has a lot of good rope on it.

You might want to talk to Midori, she is an excellent teacher and extremely knowledgeable.  For rope you might want to talk to Twisted Monk he makes a variety of rope types, colors etc.

Fantastic answers ppl, I was about to ask almost exactly the same question, so lots of research is now going to follow, and a trip to B&Q :)

Maybe a discussion with https://www.fetish.com/p/morris159/     aka Morris159 on this site - might be a good starting point.

2 knotty boys - i enjoyed some of their videos
A guy called Mark Varley (on another Fet site) or Beautiful Bondage (dot net) website also does rope and videos

Yes, Morris’ rope work is amazing, as tbh are some of the others (The Magician is one), so I’ll chat to him/them next time I see them in chat, thanks for the reminder.
