Ch**** Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 i realised the other day that you can download anybodys pictures from this site. I thought this wouldn't be possible or allowed. This is a breach of the privacy that the site proclaims to take seriously. This needs to be fixed asap. This isn't possible on other sites but it's all too easy here. I'm really not happy about this and consider it a total fail to protect members...im rethinking staying part of this place because of this š
Al**** Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 To be fair, even if it is not directly possible on other sites to download, there are always workarounds to be able to grab them. Always have the rule if you do not want people to save the image, do not upload it. That is the only way to make sure nobody can have access to it.
ge**** Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Even the mainstream sites (Twitter/Facebook/Instagram etc and not to mention many of the porn sites) downloading other people's pics is possible - in fact on a quick rummage the only one where you don't appear able I've come across is FL. . And even where downloading is blocked you can usually screenshot - so not sure this place is any different from any other - the one thing that would be nice to do would be if they added a discreet watermark or similar with your username and event then they are easily cropped out unless the watermark obscures the picture
ge**** Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 P.S. Not saying it's right that people should download other people's pics or have the ability to, but also not sure there's a great deal the site can do to prevent it. . As Alvingal says the only real way to prevent pics being "borrowed" is not to post them
Deleted Member Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 The good news is that I believe digital images have a time stamp and code. So many tech analysts can decipher if an image is fake, doctored or duplicated. It doesn't always protect your privacy/risk but it gives comfort knowing that the paper trail can be traced and verified Unfortunately, with every social media site, even if the pics were not able to be downloaded, someone could screenshot and crop images to make them look real. I hide my nsfw pics, crop my head out and only share pics with folks that have earned trust bc of the very issue you're having. I hope this helps. I would hate to see you go š

ey**** Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 I'm just going through someone's pictures now and the right click doesn't show download pic, as it's embedded html - so it's in line with other sitesĀ

Or at least it did on mine when I tried it
Deleted Member Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Welcome to the Internet, you can download or copy pretty much any image on the Internet, even if a site uses some measures to prevent it, theres usually a way around them

Yeah I know - my bank doesn't for instance but most social media ones I'm aware of don't but yeah plenty of workarounds if you know how and are determined enough

yo**** Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Unrelated but still to do with pics on here, has anyone else lost the ability to request to see private pictures once you've chatted with another user?
Ch**** Posted July 17, 2023 Author Posted July 17, 2023 Yes I found this on Android phone. Also yes I went to FL straight away to see if it was possible there and it wasn't. Other sites I have used in the past have made the option in it being downloadable or not.my real problem is location data can extracted from the original picture, a screenshot rewrites the whole image and gets a new location
Je**** Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Perhaps the site not letting people down load and the member or site admin getting notifications of people screenshotting peoples photos, a bit how Snapchat does? Some times it's innocent but perhaps harrassing and repeat offenders, if admin made aware, can remove them to protect people better. Thing to remember at the end of the day is, don't put something online if you don't want it leaked. Internet is a scary place now.

ge**** Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Have also now downloaded at random a series of pics from the site (and deleted them too) and on none of them did any location data appear - so suspect the site strips it when pics are uploaded
ey**** Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 yeah, I've just done a quick EXIF check and there's no data stored.Ā Ā Ā
ey**** Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 I know that fetlife also strips EXIF even though they've blocked 'easy' downloads - it's still not difficult to download pics and vids from Fetlife without screenshot/recording - so I know a lot of sites do pre-emptively strip thisĀ
Deleted Member Posted July 18, 2023 Posted July 18, 2023 Being able to download is a benefit as it allows you to do reverse image searches to weed out the fakes. Also with checking against your own images too see if they are out there somewhere.
Th**** Posted July 18, 2023 Posted July 18, 2023 I feel like it's fairly basic "internetting 101" to take on full responsibility for things like this yourself. Ā Turn off location data, don't post pictures in spaces where you want a level of anonymity if you've also posted them elsewhere with identifying information. Assume anything you put out into the internet may be seen by anyone and everyone on the planet. Including friends, family, employers and people who wish to make life difficult for you.Ā
Deleted Member Posted July 18, 2023 Posted July 18, 2023 I've been on the Internet since the 80s and ANY photo posted to any site can be downloaded - one way or another. Also, everything that gets posted anywhere online is probably out there, somewhere, forever.,
