Bondage is one of the most famous and best known aspects of S&M and BDSM play, and not without reason. Being tied up is a glorious sensation for the right person, and the control inherent in being the person doing the tying can give a dominant partner a heady rush. Ball gags are also commonly used. Why is bondage fun?

People enjoy different aspects of bondage. Some love the control, the person tied is at the mercy of the one who restrained them. Yes, this is when a sub is held in place simply by the dominant partner’s words. It’s completely about control. Holding the submissive in place with orders. It can be a particularly intense experience for the people involved and needs a lot of trust between all those involved.

I’m new to bondage, how do I try it safely?

The best way is to do your research. You can look at resources online, watch videos too but the best way is to get out to your local BDSM events and ask questions, observe others playing and if you can attend workshops. The basic safety rule of all restraint is to make sure you can get the tied partner out of the situation quickly in an emergency. This calls for safe words, safe actions and often a pair of shears too. Visiting BDSM dungeons and clubs will give you chance to practise with other more experienced kinksters who can show you the ropes, literally in some cases!
